In 2007, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) completed a source water assessment for the groundwater wells used by Liberty Water. The assessment reviewed the adjacent land uses that may pose a potential risk to the sources. These risks include, but are not limited to, gas stations, landfills, dry cleaners, agricultural fields, wastewater treatment plants, and mining activities. Once ADEQ identified the adjacent land uses, they were ranked according to their potential to affect the water source. The result of the assessment indicated a low risk susceptibility rating for our source water.
Liberty Water plans to address the protection of our water resources by maintaining a strong vigilance of any source that may pose a contamination threat within the community. Residents can help protect water sources by properly disposing of hazardous household chemicals during hazardous materials collection days and by limiting pesticide and fertilizer use. For information regarding hazardous waste pickup programs, contact your local Public Works Department.
The complete assessment is available for inspection at the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, 1110 West Washington, Phoenix, AZ 85007, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Electronic copies are available from ADEQ at dml@azdeq.gov.
